The formation of the passivation layer in Li/SOCl2 cells results in the loss of 2% capacity per year if the cells are stored at 20°C. At room temperatures, the rate of self-discharge decreases as the LiCl layer thickens. The loss of lithium at 20°C due to the formation of the passivation layer is almost insignificant.
